Genesis 11:31-12:5 (TNIV)

31 Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

32 Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran.

1 The LORD had said to Abram, "Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you.

2 "I will make you into a great nation,
       and I will bless you;
I will make your name great,
and you will be a blessing.

3 I will bless those who bless you,
       and whoever curses you I will curse;
       and all peoples on earth
       will be blessed through you."

4 So Abram went, as the LORD had told him; and Lot went with him. Abram was seventy-five years old when he set out from Harran. 5 He took his wife Sarai, his nephew Lot, all the possessions they had accumulated and the people they had acquired in Harran, and they set out for the land of Canaan, and they arrived there.

Discovery (curiosity) is key in reaching

the life of our dreams.

1.  When you stop _________________(a) you stop _____________________(b).

Genesis 2:19-20 (TNIV)

19 Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the wild animals and all the birds in the sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. 20 So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds in the sky and all the wild animals.

But for Adam no suitable helper was found.

2.  Many allow life to be __________________________(c) and _________________(d) by problems.

Genesis 4:19-22 (NLT)

19 Lamech married two women. The first was named Adah, and the second was Zillah. 20 Adah gave birth to Jabal, who was the first of those who raise livestock and live in tents. 21 His brother’s name was Jubal, the first of all who play the harp and flute. 22 Lamech’s other wife, Zillah, gave birth to a son named Tubal-cain. He became an expert in forging tools of bronze and iron. Tubal-cain had a sister named Naamah.

*Two ways to go:

¨      Find problems to ___________________________(e)

v.s.

¨      Find problems to ___________________________(f)

3.  God breaks down limitations by people refusing to __________________________________(g).

Genesis 11:31 (TNIV)

Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there.

Generally, we are led by either circumstantial manipulation or by purpose and call.

4.  You don’t have to learn everything the ________________(h) or through ____________________________(i).

Genesis 3:4-5 (TNIV)

4 "You will not certainly die," the serpent said to the woman.       5 "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."

Life Group Conversations

1.  When you were a small child, did you ever “get into” something you shouldn’t have?

2.  Has your desire to find out for yourself ever gotten you into trouble?

3.  Would you consider yourself a person that enjoys exploring things?  Why or why not?

4.  Do you feel as though your life is led more by your circumstances or by your purpose?  What steps could you take to be more purpose driven?

5.  Can you name one area of life that you are applying yourself to learn more?  Do you sense that to be an area of growth for you?

6.  Have you ever refused to give up?  What did you experience through that process?

Spiritual Practices: See something you haven’t seen before. Read scripture out loud to yourself, tape it and play it back. If you’re an athletics lover go to an art museum... If you like classical music listen to rap or rock... If you love information read fiction. Do something that will get you out of your limited vision. Take a look through binoculars, tele-scope or kaleidoscope. Let the power of vision and discovery come alive!

Spiritual Exercise:  Write your visioneering-self an encouraging letter of something that has happened in the last five years because you saw it, believed for it, and it happened. Then put a forward entry into your dream journal dated 5 years from now; something you see now and are believing for in the future!

Breath Prayer: (breathing in) Jesus lead me

                            (breathing out) in my dreams.

Helen Keller was once asked if there was anything worse than being blind. She replied, "Having no vision."
