Unbelievable
Matthew 10:34-39 (TNIV)
34"Do not suppose that I have come to bring
peace to the earth. I did not come to bring peace, but a sword. 35For
I have come to turn “a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, a daughter-in-law
against her mother-in-law. 36your enemies will be the members of your own
household.”
37Anyone
who loves their father or mother more than me is not worthy of me; anyone who
loves a son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38Whoever
does not take up their cross and follow me is not worthy of me. 39Whoever
finds their life will lose it, and whoever loses their life for my sake will
find it.

Luke 2:46-50 (TNIV)
46After three days they found him in the temple
courts, sitting among the teachers, listening to them and asking them
questions. 47Everyone who heard him was amazed at his understanding
and his answers. 48When his parents saw him, they were astonished.
His mother said to him, "Son, why have you treated us like this? Your
father and I have been anxiously searching for you."
49"Why
were you searching for me?" he asked. "Didn't you know I had to be in
my Father's house?" 50But they did not understand what he was
saying to them.

Luke6:6-11 (TNIV)
6On another
Sabbath he went into the synagogue and was teaching, and a man was there whose
right hand was shriveled. 7The Pharisees and the teachers of the law
were looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, so they watched him closely to see
if he would heal on the Sabbath. 8But Jesus knew what they were
thinking and said to the man with the shriveled hand, "Get up and stand in
front of everyone." So he got up and stood there.
9Then
Jesus said to them, "I ask you, which is lawful on the Sabbath: to do good or to do evil, to save life or to destroy it?"
10He
looked around at them all, and then said to the man, "Stretch out your
hand." He did so, and his hand was completely restored. 11But
the Pharisees and the teachers of the law were furious and began to discuss
with one another what they might do to Jesus.

Mark 8:11-13 (TNIV)
11The Pharisees
came and began to question Jesus. To test him, they asked him for a sign from
heaven. 12He sighed deeply and said, "Why does this generation
ask for a sign? Truly I tell you, no sign will be given to it." 13Then
he left them, got back into the boat and crossed to
the other side.

Matthew 27:11-14, 24
11Meanwhile Jesus stood before the governor, and the
governor asked him, "Are you the king of the Jews?"
"You have said so,"
Jesus replied.
12When
he was accused by the chief priests and the elders, he gave no answer. 13Then
Pilate asked him, "Don't you hear the testimony they are bringing against
you?" 14But Jesus made no reply, not even to a single charge—to
the great amazement of the governor.
24When Pilate
saw that he was getting nowhere, but that instead an uproar
was starting, he took water and washed his hands in front of the crowd. "I
am innocent of this man's blood," he said. "It is your
responsibility!"
Conversations in Life Group:
1. Jesus seemed to be quite
intolerant of religious behavior. Why do
you suppose it was so unacceptable to Him?
2. Have you
ever made an intentional decision that was opposed to God’s desire for your
life? Do you think things may have gone
better if done His way?
3. Why does
it seem that a correct action not done in a loving way is most times harmful?
4. Is there
any type of miracle that could happen in your life that would totally convince
you God is real?
5. Have you or
anyone around you ever experienced a miracle?
How did you respond? Did the
effect seem to wear off?
6. Does God
ever seem to “go silent” in your life?
7. Is there
anything (serving, generosity, action, love, relationally, etc.) that you know
God would desire from you that you continue to ignore?
“You never change things
by fighting the existing reality. To
change something, build a new model that makes the existing model
obsolete.” --R. Buckminster Fuller
Spiritual Practices: Determine the old model
that needs to become obsolete. Begin to
build the new model through prayer, fasting, and steps of faith.
Pray: God, disturb me where I’m comfortable. Amen.
